  Greg Fraser, co-owner and general manager of DaDe Art and Design Lab in Inglewood (1327 9 Ave S.E.) is one creative force in the neighbourhood. DaDe is a half gallery, half furniture store with its owners — Fraser and Darcy Lundgren — using the large space for art shows and fund raisers in addi- tion to general event rental space. “We’re creating some- thing new to Calgary,” Fraser says. “We try to push the enve- lope and do things that are interesting and beautiful that Calgary hasn’t seen be- fore.” Fraser proudly notes that unlike many other furni- ture retailers in Calgary, their pieces are exclusive to them within Alberta and in many cases even Cana- da. The same goes for the art. DaDe has been open since December ’09 and will hold its grand opening on May 28, but Fraser says they’re still working on the opening’s details. Meanwhile, Fraser says DaDe enjoys their business neighbours’ support and hope to change a bit of the “small town within a city” thinking by possibly get- ting a few businesses to stay open until 9 p.m. at least one night a week.
