MercedesBenz Start Up, Canada’s leading national program to discover and mentor upandcoming fashion designers, now in its second year, will close the 2012 season with a much anticipated group show finale on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at 7pm in the Runway venue at World MasterCard Fashion Week.

The finalists were selected from a countrywide search where designers presented their collections and business plans to a panel of industry experts. From these interviews, selected designers showcased a capsule collection in front of local media and fashion fans for their chance to travel to Toronto for the 2012 finale. Selected finalists are Caitlin Power, Christopher Bates, Dreamboat Lucy, DUY, Lauren Bagliore, Malorie Urbanovitch, Nicole Campre and Pure Magnolia. These talented young designers will present their Spring 2013 Collections to an audience of media, buyers, fashion insiders, celebrities, VIPs, and an esteemed panel of judges.

The judging panel consists of: Bernadette Mora, Editor in Chief of FASHION Magazine, Barbara Atkin, Fashion Director of Holt Renfrew, fashion personality and expert Jeanne Beker, along with Jarrad Clark, Global Production Director, IMG Fashion, JoAnne Caza, Director of Communications and Public Relations, MercedesBenz Canada and Robin Kay, President of the Fashion Design Council of Canada. Immediately following the group show finale, the judges will select the 2012 MercedesBenz Start Up Awarded Designer. One of these eight accomplished young designers will receive mentoring from a prestigious group of industry experts including successful designers, show producers, buyers, sales representatives, journalists, marketing and PR professionals, accountants and attorneys as they prepare for a fully produced solo runway show during the Fall 2013 Collections in March. Designers will learn the tools necessary for the development of their brands and ongoing business models while being introduced to vital industry relationships that will help them succeed beyond the runway. The Awarded Designer will be editorially featured in FASHION Magazine, official magazine sponsor of MercedesBenz Start Up, as well as in numerous other local and international media outlets.

Fashion designer Lauren Bagliore delivers to Calgary an impressive resume that lists the designer alongside staple names of the fashion industry. The Art of Fashion debuted at the DaDe ART & DESIGN LAB where guests were dazzled and entranced by Bagliore’s ready to wear line.

Now based in Calgary, Bagliore has just returned from a very succesful showing at LG Fashion Week in Toronto. The celebrated designer maintains consitency with the style and general look of her line, tying the collection together with elegant evening dresses and distinct outerwear jackets. Nothing is overdone. From the layering to the ruching and the cuts of dresses, Bagliore’s choice of fabric is right on the money, mixing tones and textures elegantly.

True stand out pieces were the long dresses that flowed to the ground with a train that could be held by  hand or slipped over the shoulder.

For the evening, Bagliore paired up with the charity organization Ratanak to raise awareness on human trafficking in Cambodia.

    LAUREN BAGLIORE

Inspired by elements of art and architecture, with astute attention to draping, tailoring and finish in every piece, Lauren Bagliore's debut collection combines an edgy modern sensibility while still retaining romantically reflective femininity.

Bagliore graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology and immediately began to work with a slew of exceptional fashion brands where she honed skills that prepared her to launch her own brand in 2011. Upon graduation , Vivienne Westwood chose Bagliore to travel to London and work at her UK fashion house. After a few years, Bagliore returned to New York and worked for Zac Posen, Libertine and Tod's as well as freelance as buyer and a stylist.

The Lauren Bagliore Fall 2012 collection features her signature buttery-soft Italian jersey dresses that are draped into breathtaking pieces of wearable art in a muted color palette of soft grays mixed with the most graphic of blacks and starkest of whites. Kimono jackets in Italian Ponte intermingle with inventive asymmetrical separates. Wood tweeds are pieced and formatted to create Op Art Illusions. Windbreaker nylons are re-invented into tailored trenches and padded boleros. Many of the pieces are convertible and day morph into night instantly with the twist of a wrap or by layering or removing items.

For Lauren Bagliore fashion is not simply a vehicle for style. It's also a means of helping others. "In my heart, I feel the desire to use my resources and talents to practically help others - that is what distinguishes what I do." Bagliore continually works with organizations that fight human trafficking globally.
