Monolith
black walnut top with spalted maple legs – materials
The Black Walnut and maple slabs have been personally harvested, milled and solar kiln dried by the artist. With finest attention to the grain patterns, the slab was taken from the center of a Walnut tree. Through the composition of the angle of the legs supporting the very modern, but still, free form slab, the artist achieved an effect of the slab levitating over the surface.
Comparative to tribal art, this piece is not only functional as a table top, but an engaging part of the household. With a structural inner force, it allows a connection of lightness and ease to any objects placed upon it.
The beauty of the wood’s nature, in its grain, paired with the geometrical supporting strength give this unique sculptural piece its name, The Monolith.

Sugar Maple top with Black Walnut legs – materials
The Sugar Maple and Walnut have been personally harvested, milled, and solar kiln dried by the artist. With the appearance of a large burl, the wood that it originates from possesses a spectrum of respected noble qualities, such as curls, spalt, and ingrown bark. Its impressive size and mature age at the time of harvest allowed for a cut of wood reaching seven feet in diameter, and over 150 rings within the interior growth. The Sugar Maple is approximately a quarter portion of this slice.
It was milled with finest attention to the grain patterns. Its lightness of color from the natural wood remains unstained. This free form slab, accented with the dark modern Walnut legs, fits into a modern design space, accentuating the objects surrounding it, while giving a warm touch to the the surrounding area. A table shaped by the artist, in a manner of sculpture furniture.
