RYAN MARSH FAIRWEATHER
The Weathermachines were first conceived while watching an episode of Planet Earth, a brilliant BBC documentary on our lovely planet, more specifically a scene where a Superb Bird of Paradise was bobbing around flaunting his feathers and bluish colouring; this bird, combined with a deep sea squid ignited a vision of a small glass character that would find home on the wall.
As the project evolved more characters were created and a story began to emerge based on Ryan's idea of what the apocalypse might bring, basically, robots taking over the world, but in a much friendlier manner.
Many, if not all, of my interests, inspire the storyline and characters. His ideas are inspired by east versus west robots (in their appearances and personalities \ intentions), Hindu mythology, yogic philosophy, cute culture, my love of colour, 80s video games, contemporary science, and the common parallels between the mechanical and natural world and its systems.
The Weathermachines story is an ever-expanding universe, and are divided into two halves: Weathermachines Round-World, a collection of hand-blown glass sculpture; a union of luxurious glass material and cute culture concept. The Round-World series is produced for fine art exhibition and retail spaces. The second half, Weathermachines Flat-World, is all 2D art work, digitally produced and printed for exhibition and purchase. They depict mechatronic deities that populate the Weathermachines Universe.
